Connecticut Art School Gets a New Look
This February, Connecticut Art School celebrated its fifth year providing quality art classes for children and adults. Since it’s founding in 2003, the school has continued to grow and evolve. Searching for a contemporary way to express the image and identity of the school, Director/Owner Sharon Cavanaugh drew inspiration from the work of 10-year-old student FuXi Worcester from Vernon. A class assignment involved the use of common art and office supplies as a source for Surrealist drawings. FuXi created a drawing of an imaginary log cabin and swing set constructed entirely from crayons. Her creative use of a traditional art media became the catalyst for CT Art School’s new look. The image uses stylized trees and art materials to symbolize growth, change and creativity. Ms Cavanaugh and graphic artist Kelsey Wardwell worked for months to create a graphic design the embodied the school’s mission and methods.

The bold and beautiful scene will be reproduced on a large sign - which identifies the school - on the website and various school publications. The web site will actually change with the seasons. In the fall, “art supply trees” will loose their leaves. During the winter, they will be covered with snow. The blossoms of spring will “come alive” and summer is bursting with bright colors. CT Art School’s new look is symbolic of the continuous pursuit of excellence. Like a tree, CT Art School has roots that extend deep into the cultural and historic tradition of art and education. The teachers are continuously developing new curriculum, updating technology and exploring dynamic methods of instruction. CT Art School is a place where people can grow and experience the joy of creating original art.
